My Review: The Altered 2 by Annabelle Jacobs

TheAltered2-final2-RGB (1)My Review: I really looked forward to Annabelle’s second book in the Lycanaeris series and I wasn’t disappointed. It’s not as high tension as the first book, but it finally reveals what’s up with Sam and Ash.

Ash has a lot of stuff to work through, and Annabelle does a really good job to bring over his feelings and fears. Sam can’t deal with being human after he’s been a wolf for so long, but for Ash, he’ll work through emotions that were muted while he was in his shifted form. These two have a lot of obstacles to overcome, until they have their happy end and the hot sex. Don’t forget about the hot, rough shifter sex. Yep.

So, a solid five star read for me (and not just because of the sex. 🙂 )

Tour Stop, Review: Just The Way You Are by E E Montgomery

Just The Way You AreAuthor Name: E E Montgomery

Book Name: Just The Way You Are

Series: Just Life #4

Can be read as a standalone, but there are elements in the other stories that will add depth to this one

Release Date: April 17, 2015

Blurb:

After ten years in an abusive relationship and a near-fatal knife wound, Jonathan Watson is finally free. Unused to being able to make even the smallest decision and smothered by family and well-meaning neighbors, he’s floundering in the real world. Jonathan is afraid of falling into another relationship too quickly and realizes he needs time to rediscover who he is before he attaches himself to another man.

He never counted on meeting Ben Urquhart, though. Ben tempts Jonathan to forget everything and take a leap.  For Ben, it’s love at first sight, and he doesn’t want to take it slow. He wants to build a life with Jonathan, free from harm and full of laughter. But before they can take the next step, they must protect Jonathan from his possessive, threatening ex. Jonathan must find the courage to confront him and break the chains of his past before he can be truly free to build a future with Ben.

Pages or Words: 70,000 words

My Review: The cover is beautiful, simply stunning. And so is Jonathan, the man this story is about. He tries to get away from his manipulating, abusing ex, and while Jonathan has the strength, it’s so hard to finally take his life in his own hands and find love again.

I loved how E E took me into the story, how I felt with Jonathan, his doubts, his attempts to get away from Anthony, the moments when he thinks he just should get back to him, only to realize then he’s better off without him. I was taken in by the sweet love that slowly blossoms between Ben and Jonathan, shadowed by the events in Jonathan’s past, yet stronger than Anthony would’ve ever guessed.

Shorter chapters in Anthony’s POV add to the depth of the story, since they show how his twisted mind really works.

In short, if you want a sweet love story and see that love is stronger than everything, then go ahead and get yourself your copy. You won’t regret it.

Excerpt:

Chapter ONE

JONATHAN SHIVERED in the early morning air but not from the chill. He wrapped his arms around himself and groaned as his wound tugged against the movement. He relaxed slowly as the pain eased. From where he stood, he could see between the two apartment blocks to where the sun glinted off the Brisbane River. Five years ago he used to watch the ferries puddle their way up and down the river, dropping passengers here at Hamilton and across the way at Bulimba. He’d missed that view for a long time. He wondered if he’d miss the house now that he was leaving it.

The house was gray—morning gray, Anthony had called it, but it had always looked like unwashed, neglected underwear to him. The lines of the house were precise and symmetrical, unlike the yard. The front lawn bore scars, just like his chest. They were from his Cruiser skidding to a stop the night Anthony had sent him to kill Mark. His eyes burned as he thought how close he’d come to doing what his boyfriend told him to.

At the time, he didn’t think he had any other choice. It was kill or be killed. Literally. By the end of that night, Mark had been the only one left uninjured. Liam’s leg had thankfully healed quickly where Anthony had stabbed him. Anthony was still in hospital with a self-inflicted knife wound to the stomach, and Jonathan… Jonathan was done with that life. Anthony’s knife in his chest—so close to his heart it was clearly intended to be fatal—had cured him of whatever delusions he’d held onto that let him believe he was in love with the man. Even Anthony’s assertions that Jonathan was responsible for him being in a wheelchair since the car accident two years before wouldn’t get him to stay.

He was out of it now, or at least he would be as soon as the removalists came and took his stuff away. Then he could begin to heal. The first step had been to learn to breathe again after his lung collapsed when Anthony stabbed him. The next step… he didn’t know what the next step after this was. He wasn’t going to admit it to anyone, but he was just as terrified now, starting a life of his own—on his own—as he was when he thought he was going to die.

The trembling began again. Dizzy. Couldn’t catch his breath. He leaned beside the front door and forced himself to bring his mind back to the here and now and looked around again. There was a new section of fence now, and the Cruiser had been repaired and sat at the curb, waiting for him. His cousin must have had the damage repaired while Jonathan was in the hospital—learning how to make his lung work again after his boyfriend had tried to kill him. He shook the thoughts from his head. He had to stop thinking like this or he’d go mad.

Sleep last night had been impossible. The house had been cleaned, but nothing was going to completely remove the blood splattered on the white carpet. His blood.

A low rumble burbled through the air, and a truck turned onto the street. Jonathan’s heart raced. “You can do this,” he whispered, although he wasn’t quite sure which part of “this” he was talking about. It could be dealing with strangers on his own, or it could be leaving Anthony—finally. He pressed the heel of his hand over the dressing on his chest. Staying with Anthony was no longer an option.

The truck stopped and turned to reverse into the driveway. The high-pitched beeping made Jonathan jump and, to calm himself, he focused on the two men sitting in the cab. The driver looked young and blond, the passenger older and shriveled, his hair sticking out in unkempt tangles.

“Two people. Not Anthony. You’re outside, everything’s marked. You don’t need to go inside with them at all if you don’t want to. You can do this.” He counted his breaths in and out. The beeping stopped, the engine cut out, and the driver’s door opened.

Long, well-formed legs slipped from the cab, by-passing the step completely as a muscled body slid to the ground. Khaki cargo shorts bunched enticingly around a spectacular package before settling loosely around slim hips as the man’s boot-clad feet landed on the ground and he stood away from the truck. Jonathan moved his gaze up the body. The worn T-shirt did nothing to hide the trim stomach and prominent pecs and the sleeves framed the rounded deltoids perfectly. Jonathan sighed as he lifted his focus higher to see the man’s wide smile.

Blurb:

In the swinging Sixties, life gets rockin’ for Jeff McInnery when a new band plays at the local pub. Caught up in lead singer Danny Speed’s cool, Jeff sneaks a kiss. But being found out as homosexual could stop Danny’s hot career fast, and even land him in jail. With harsh words, Danny leaves to head for fame and fortune while Jeff starts university. On campus, Jeff meets Archie Ballatine, a history student living as openly as possible. It’s an exciting new world of sex and friendship for Jeff, but then the band comes back to town.

My Review:

About the book:
Written in Jeff’s POV, we get a glimpse of gay life in the Sixties. Jeff is a waiter in a pub where Danny’s band plays. He meets the singer after the show and kisses him. But Danny rejects him, calling him vile words.
Jeff is afraid he’ll be outed to his family and friends now, and counts the days until he can leave for collage. There he meets Archie, a fellow student. They start having sex regularly, although it’s more like friends with benefits than being lovers.
The story unfolds, Jeff meets Danny again, but he needs to be Danny’s little secret if he wants to keep seeing him. Being outed as gay wouldn’t only destroy Danny’s career, it’d bring both of them to jail.
Jeff has to decide. He can’t be Danny’s boyfriend. And to stay in the shadows, always hide, always deny who he is? Can he do that? Does he want to do that?
And then there’s another man, someone who’s been there for him.

My Thoughts: This is a sweet story from the Sixties. I like H.’s writing style, and the story has a twist I hadn’t anticipated. H. met me in a pub in the Sixties and took me for a ride through the time. Jeff is just like the boy next door, Archie is as flamboyant as possible, and Danny-well, Rockstars are Rockstars.

The only thing I would’ve wished for was a longer story with more character development, but that can just be a personal preference.

In other words, a good read, I liked it.

Excerpt:

“So what’ll you be studying?”

Jeff prepared for the usual perplexed reaction when he gave his answer. “Philosophy, would you believe? God knows what I’ll do with my degree when I’ve finished.”

“You’ll fathom the secrets of the universe, Jeff.” Danny sounded utterly serious as he stubbed out his cigarette in an ashtray. Then he broke into a grin. “Now come and have a dance.”

“What?” Jeff was sure Danny must be taking the piss.

“You heard me.” Danny stepped onto the dance floor and was soon moving to the music. His hips were twisting, his knees bending, and his backside gyrating in an unbearably provocative way. “Or do philosophers not lower themselves to such things?”

BookBlast, Giveaway, Review: The Altered by Annabelle Jacobs

TheAltered-f

Author Name: Annabelle Jacobs

Book Name: The Altered

Release Date: April 9, 2015

Blurb:   Twenty years ago the UK’s water supply was contaminated with an experimental pathogen, Lycanaeris, causing widespread panic across the nation. Terrorism was suspected but never proven, and when nothing happened–no epidemic, no unexplained illnesses–the whole episode was written off as an elaborate hoax. But Lycanaeris was selective. Only those of a certain age, and with a specific gene in their DNA were infected. Time would reveal the pathogen’s true nature, when those susceptible grew up Altered.

Daniel is one of thousands forced to hide his altered status by living a quiet life. He’s not like the others, though. Daniel can’t help looking so distinctive or being able to see every altered for what they really are. To those abducting altereds, that skill makes him valuable.

For Jordan, shifting from human to wolf means living under the radar to avoid unwanted attention. Meeting Daniel complicates matters. Daniel’s existence is a threat to Jordan and his friends, but Jordan can’t seem to shake the strange connection between them. When danger threatens, there’s little time for Daniel and Jordan to work out their feelings before lives are at stake.

Pages or Words: 209 pages, 75,000 words

Categories: M/M Romance, Paranormal

My Review:

Both Daniel and Jordan never believed in mates, but there’s a pull between them that’s way too strong to ignore. It practically forces them together. That doesn’t mean it’s easy for them. There are misunderstandings, jealousy, and close friends that don’t like strangers in their middle (and have a good reason for that).

Jason and Daniel have to overcome a lot of obstacles, on top of being hunted for what they are. They need to stand together, convince their friends that neither of them is dangerous and fight for their lives.

Starting with the first scene, the book took me in and didn’t let me go. In addition, the sex was hot, just enough roughness and shifter in it to be erotic beyond everything.  But this book has much more to offer than that. Read it.

I’ll be waiting impatiently for the second book.

Excerpt: He laughed at the joke Matt was in the middle of telling, chipping in for a bit and teasing him, and then he felt it again, creeping up the back of his spine like icy fingers. Daniel stayed perfectly still, suppressing his body’s natural reaction, and carefully turned to place his empty pint glass on the bar. He let his gaze wander along to the end of the bar, past the couple he’d spotted earlier, and— Bloody Hell. He sucked in a sharp breath before he could stop himself. Usually he got a flash of images, depending on how much they’d been altered—claws, teeth, and fur if they changed fully, but never anything like this. One minute Daniel was looking at a tall dark-haired, really hot man, and in the blink of an eye he’d changed into a huge black wolf, fangs bared in a snarl—clearer than anything he’d seen before. The image vanished almost as soon as it appeared, and the noise from the bar suddenly jarred Daniel back to his senses. Fuck.

Review: Songs of the Earth (Sumerian’s Sons #2) by Lexi Ander

This is the second Printbook in the Sumeria’s Sons series. They need to be read in order.

About the book:
Tristan has found out about his heritage and plans on embracing it, even if a lot of things are still in the dark. He also accepted he’s deeply in love with Ushna, whom he calls his husband.
The urge to claim Ushna as his own rides him strong, but he can’t do that, since the man is not his Twin Flame. If he’d do it, he’d sentence Ushna to be alone in his future lifes. It has to be enough for him to have Ushna by his side in the present. The world around them is dangerous, with threats coming up left and right, but Tristan, together with Ushna, stands up and fights.
But then the Gods approach him to do something he’d never even dreamt off.

My thoughts about it: I loved it as much as the first one. It sometimes moved so fast, I had to go back and reread, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying it. Picking up where the first book ended, this book grabbed me from the first line and held my attention to the end. I can only say it again: Go get your copy and read it.

My rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Review: Twin Flames (Sumerian’s Sons #1) by Lexi Ander

I have no idea why I haven’t read a book from Lexi before. I’ll work my way through her other books now since I had no idea what I’ve missed 🙂

I received my ARC for the third book in this series, but I realized after the first page that this was a series (I should really start to pay more attention).

Since the books need to be read in order, I started with book one and I’ll try to review this book without giving away spoilers:

Tristan gets hurt by the one person who’s supposed to love him unconditionally, his Twin Flame. Only Ushna, his best friend, is there for him in that dark time and helps him survive.

Years later, Tristan finally finds the love again, but all he can have is a shadow of what he was supposed to have with his Twin Flame. It’s better than nothing, but still not the same as with his Twin Flame, even if it makes him happy.

But with happiness comes trouble. Big trouble. Nothing in Tristan’s life is as it was, and big relevations test him and the new love he just found.

My thoughts about it: I  simply couldn’t stop. I totally got lost in Tristan and Ushna’s world. I did nothing but read. My fingernails suffered with Tristan. Other parts were just funny, Tristan’s dry humor coming out. I might have embarrassed myself with laughing out loud in a dentist’s waiting room (I was not alone!). It’s great to see Tristan slowly coming back to his former self, and to see the new love grow. And Tristan’s seduction tactics were simply too funny (That might have been one of the parts that made me laugh out loud.).

The book is well written, well edited, and fast paced. I simply loved it. Buy it today and get lost in Tristan’s world. You won’t regret it. Book Two is also available, my review of it coming in the next days.

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars

I’ve added the general info for you:

Blurb:

A Lycan descendant of Gilgamesh and Enkidu, Tristan is not as extraordinary as his ancestors. He is an average warrior, unremarkable throughout. But this fact does not trouble him because he has found his Twin Flame, the one person destined to be his, who will love him unconditionally, life after life.

Then his Flame betrays him, leaving him shattered and dying. Brokenhearted, Tristan dissolves the sacred bond and leaves. His best friend, Ushna, accompanies him, vowing to guard and protect him, and Tristan slowly comes to realize that love does not require a sacred bond.

But if he hopes to keep the love he chooses, they will first have to survive ancient secrets, lies, mythical creatures, and the return of absent gods…

Wolf’s Sacrifice by Draven St. James

It’s been a while since I had a guest on my blog, and it’s been a while since I posted anything at all. I’m sorry for that, I’ve been busy writing.

But today I’m very happy to have Draven St. James on my blog.

Welcome, Draven and congratulations to your new release, Wolf’s Sacrifice!

DSJ_WolfsSacrifice

Blurb:

Sean Maddox has one basic goal: to protect the Northwest Pack. That priority helps him stay grounded—until the day the pack rescues Liam. Suddenly Sean is finding any excuse to be around the sweet, blind shifter. But trying to focus his thoughts on keeping Liam safe and not exploring the whole laundry list of carnal fantasies he’s been having is anything but grounding. It doesn’t help that Sean’s wolf makes it damn clear it believes Liam belongs to him.

From the first deep breath of Sean Maddox’s intoxicating scent, all Liam wants to do is strip naked for the sexy beta and let the wolf claim him. Hiding away his desires seems like the best plan, given after a lifetime in captivity Liam is just learning what it means to be free. What does he know about being a mate? More to the point, would Sean even want him if he knew the truth?

As Sean and Liam struggle with their growing craving for each other an old enemy steps out of the shadows. With secrets lurking and fate twisting two worlds together a sacrifice must be made, but can the two mates live with the consequences?

Excerpt:

While he was certain Liam didn’t intend for it to be a sensual strip tease, Sean’s mind drifted in that direction anyway. Birds sang and the wind bellowed, while Liam’s hands danced over the contours of his body.

“I can feel you staring at me,” Liam accused, although amusement colored his words. The levity kept him from turning away and giving Liam privacy.

“I’m just standing here,” he replied in a low rough voice. Standing there envisioning someplace much more private so he could do wicked things he shouldn’t be considering.

“Uh huh.” Liam shrugged his shirt from his shoulders and Sean bit his lip to keep his groan at bay. Screw the water, he wanted to press the man to the ground and lick him from head to toe.

Facing him directly as though Liam could actually see him, Liam toed of his shoes and shimmied out of his pants. He did manage to keep on a snug pair of black boxer briefs Sean had taken him shopping to get.

Deep breathes. Deep breathes.

“No more than this,” Liam said with a stubborn twist to his lips. The words effectively jerked him into the present. “I may not be able to see you looking at me, but I can feel it.”

“Oh?” His curiosity peaked at that admission, but he left the statement alone, for now. Deep within he wanted to know everyone about Liam, but didn’t want to push so hard the man locked him out. The last thing he needed was for Liam to know how much he wanted him to remove that last scrap of clothing.

“Well?” Liam held his hand out. “I need some direction here.”

Sean grinned and closed the distanced between them. He laced their fingers together and directed Liam toward the edge of the water. “The rocks are a bit slippery, so be careful.”

He waded into the chilly water and towed Liam in after him, not surprised when the man gasped, “Shit, that’s cold. Are you sure we should be doing this?”

“I swim here every morning. Your body will adjust.”

“Or you’re crazy,” Liam muttered under his breath. “It’ll adjust when hypothermia sets in.”

He chuckled and carefully turned away from the lake so he could direct Liam out into the water. “Come on. Today I won’t throw you into the deep. It will be about getting you comfortable with the water.”

“Define comfortable? You’ll leave me in here until I’m too numb to climb out?”

“No, smartass,” Sean responded with a snort. “It’s about you feeling the stones under your feet and the slight current along your body.”

Liam’s face crinkled into a looked of disgust. “It feels gross down there.”

“There is moss covering the floor of the lake. I promise it isn’t anything that is going to come out and grab you.” Sean brushed his thumb over Liam’s hand in reassuring gesture. “I’ll protect you.”

“Somehow that sounded condescending.”

“I know this lake like the back of my hand. I’ve been swimming here since I was a boy. I probably can map out about every rock.”

The chill from the water was a relief from the heat the sight of Liam’s nearly naked form inspired. The man’s pale body reflected off the surface of the water, his narrow waist, and slim toned torso. The fall of his hair danced around his shoulders from the soft breeze that blew across the lake. His brow furrowed in concentration.

Sean had never taken anyone to the lake with him. He considered it a private place, one he now shared with the puzzling man before him. A man who he wanted to unraveled to reveal all his secrets and protect him from any harm that may still be lurking in the shadows. Now if Liam weren’t so damn stubborn.

Skye Jones – Claimed by Love

It’s a honor to welcome my friend Skye Jones on my blog today.
If you need some quiet time from all the Christmas trouble, I can strongly suggest you read Claimed by Love to get your mind on other things. Believe me, if you’re spending time with that hot woman and her two hot guys, the last thing you’ll think about will be a looming family dinner. 🙂

claimedbylove

Blurb: Kayley Edwards has spent the last four years closing herself off after a vicious attack by her lover left her scarred and terrified. After fleeing her native Alaska, she ran the length of the country and began a new life in Miami far from her family and friends.
When her cousin and his friends decide to vacation nearby, he invites her to join them, saying he has important news. Determined not to let fear rule her life, Kayley agrees to meet with them, only to have her world turned upside down. His friends include the two gorgeous men who’ve haunted her dreams for months, kindling her desire, and challenging her to take a chance on love.

Pack alpha, Luke Johnson, has sensed Kayley in his visions for years. He and his mate, Sean Wallace, know she is meant to be theirs. But how will she react when she finds out the world they inhabit is one she never dreamed existed? As passions collide, Sean finds himself acting as a bridge between his strong willed alpha and a skittish Kayley. But can they break through Kayley’s defenses and convince her to join their family?
Just as it seems the three may have a future together, a ghost from Sean’s past strikes at the heart of their happiness. They must fight for everything they hold dear to win their chance at love.

Excerpt:

“We’re not what you think.” Luke hunkered down to her eye level. “What I’m about to say is going to sound…well, it’s going to sound completely insane, not to put too fine a point on it. We are a team, and we do live and work together but there’s more to it. We are wolf shifters.”

“You’re what?” Kayley didn’t know what the hell he talked about.

“Werewolves,” Will said.

“We’re really not werewolves,” Taylor spoke for the first time, his deep bass resonating in the room. “In fact, werewolves don’t exist. Not in the sense of beasts that only change during a full moon and can’t control it. And of course werewolves wouldn’t be able to—”

“I don’t think we need the shifter versus werewolf debate right now, do you?” Sean snapped.

Kayley started to shake her head. Werewolves? Clearly coming off her meds had been a mistake. “I think…I think I need someone to call my doctor.” She raised a shaky hand to her face. ‘Will, her number is in my purse upstairs. I think…I might be having some sort of episode.”

“You’re not going crazy, Kayley. This is huge for anyone to grasp but trust me, what we say is true.” Luke watched her, concern writ large on his handsome face. He made no move toward her, as if he realized to do so would only panic her further. “Show her.” Luke nodded at Sean.

“What?”

“Show. Her.” Luke ground the words out. “Shift.”

Sean shrugged and stood. He glanced to Kayley before shedding all his clothes, actions quick and smooth. Embarrassed for him, she began to look away.

“Watch him.” Luke’s voice still held calm reassurance, but a steely undertone made her unable to disobey.

As Kayley watched, a halo surrounded Sean’s body, bright and shimmering. As if the very sun itself glowed within him, blinding those who tried to look directly his way. The halo died down, and Sean had vanished. In his place stood a very large, very beautiful, silver wolf.

“Oh, my God!” Kayley jumped out of her seat, only to fall straight back into it as her legs gave way.

M/F BDSM Juliet’s Orders by J.T. Hall

Please welcome J.T. Hall with her His/Her Erotic tale ‘Juliet’s Orders’ on my blog today! I already had the pleasure of reading it, and I can only say: ‘Check it out!’

juliets orders 400

Blurb:

Brainy but beautiful Juliet has an annoying problem–her college classmate Russell keeps bugging her for a date. He’s a jock, brash and arrogant, and he has absolutely no idea that he’s playing with fire. For Juliet has a secret. At school, she may be the class nerd. But by night, she likes to spank and discipline men.

They embark on a bet. Juliet will have to dress sexy and put on a show at lunch. In return. Russell will have to follow all of Juliet’s orders for an evening.

What happens next, however, is that Juliet discovers that underneath all that bravado, Russell may actually be a decent guy. Maybe even decent enough to keep.

Excerpt:

By lunch time, Juliet was ready to string Russell up by his balls. She wished she had a recorder for all the one-liners thrown in her direction, everything from “Can you bend over and pick that up for me?” to “I wanna be your daddy and you can be my little girl.” She’d explained to all her friends and even several non-friends that it was all for a bet. Still, it didn’t stop the comments, and it certainly didn’t stop the looks.

And now she had to turn it up a notch and make sexual noises.
True to his word, Russell was waiting for her in the cafeteria when lunch time came around. Juliet ignored him and ordered herself hot dog, fries, and a decadent slice of lemon merengue pie. She threw him a look as she strode over to his table and sat down across from him.
He looked her over and sighed happily. “I love my life. So how’s your day been?”
Was it her imagination, or had he combed his hair since their parting after first period? She pulled the hot dog out of the bun and ate the bun by itself. “Wonderful. It’s probably going to take me months for anyone to take me seriously again. Maybe even years.” Her deadpan tone matched the look she gave him as she took a sip of soda.
For a second he looked concerned. Then he laughed and waved a hand at her. “They’ll forget it in a week. I mean okay, you may get more offers for dates. But I’m sure once they see your librarian look again, they’ll just think of you as the book nerd.”
She popped a few fries into her mouth. “Okay. So I’ll have you wear a skirt. People will forget it in a week.”
That shut him up. He glared at her. Juliet grinned, and then picked up her hot dog. Keeping her eyes on him, she ran the tip of her tongue around the top of it. Ire was quickly replaced by shock and then lust. “So are you ready for my performance?” This was actually rather fun. It might even make up for the dirty comments from people.
“Um…yum,” Russell choked, reaching for his soda.
Juliet took that as a yes. She sucked half the hot dog into her mouth, and drew it out again. She did this a few times, watching as color flooded his face, and made some low moans. That attracted the attention of a few guys at the end of their table, who turned to stare at them. She smiled sweetly.
Then she bit the dog in half, chewing noisily. Russell winced and turned a little green and she had to swallow quickly to avoid laughing at him. Yeah this was getting fun now. She popped the other half into her mouth, ate it, and then made a little forkful of the lemon merengue pie. “Oh God! I love pie.” She groaned loudly, taking the bite and licking it off the fork. She kept her eyes on Russell the whole time. It wasn’t so bad if she didn’t have to look at who else was watching them.
Russell took a long drink, his eyes locked on hers. The table blocked her view, but Juliet was willing to bet he was starting to get a boner. She took another bite. “Ohhhhh…” She made a little mewling sound at the end, licking her fingers. She was getting into this. Leaning back, she touched her neck as if warm, shaking out her hair.
Then onto the next bite, really putting on a show. “Yes! Ohmygod so good…” She moaned louder, and this time she heard a wolf whistle from somewhere across the room.

(FP) MR 2 - Heart-mate, Mine!

Blurb:

Two lives–One destiny. When fate decides two people belong together, nothing can stand in its way. Liam Kantry and Carlo Bruenelli find themselves caught up in the madness of Christmas and taking care of a child as they discover the meaning of being true heart-mates.

Liam Kantry wants to be with the man he has loved his whole life, yet incessant gossip and innuendos have labelled him the pack whore–a point he has never disputed. Now the rumours have come back to bite him in the arse.

Carlo Bruenelli is waiting for his heart-mate; he’s one of the pack who truly believes they really do exist. In his heart he wants it to be his best friend, only problem is he knows Liam doesn’t believe in heart-mates. What will it take to change Liam’s mind? And should he even try?

Christmas is drawing near, and between snowball fights and the inter-pack gathering, Liam and Carlo find themselves caught up in the excitement and obsessing over what their future holds. Especially when a small child forms a bond with them. They learn there is more out there than they ever dreamt was possible.

Can Liam and Carlo work around the newness of their own mating to protect someone who needs it most?

CONTENT ADVISORY: This work is a significantly expanded (almost tripled in length), re-edited re-release title.

Excerpt:

Everyone had a fear, and Carlo’s was probably no different to anyone else’s. His fear involved running into the love of his life, Liam Kantry, and being ignored completely. Liam often starred in Carlo’s nightly dreams of who his heart-mate should look like, yet sadly Liam only ever looked at him like an annoying, dorky, younger brother–a brother you didn’t want hanging around all the time. Usually, it was hard to avoid him since they belonged to the same pack. Thoughts like these had been plaguing him for the last month or so leading up to this special week.

The Moon Runner Pack had been chosen to host the inter-pack meet-and-greet on their lands where guests from other packs would be coming in hope of finding a mate. Most people didn’t believe in heart-mates. Carlo was truly one of the few in the pack who actually believed heart-mates existed. Somewhere out there’s the perfect person looking for me. A tingle of excitement surged through him at the mere possibility of it being true. I’m twenty-one. I’m finally old enough to attend the party. Let’s hope he’s here and just as eager to meet me. Wish it could be Liam, but wouldn’t we have known by now if we were? Hopefully Christmas Day I’ll have pushed aside my crush on Liam Kantry and I’ll know whether or not my heart-mate is out there searching for me as well–that is, if he even comes to the gathering. My luck, he won’t even bother turning up.

Man, he hoped he was wrong and his heart-mate existed in the here and now, waiting to meet him as well. Never once had he doubted that his future mate would be a male. Fate wouldn’t be so cruel to pair him with a woman he could never really love. Being mated to a female wouldn’t be fair to either of them. If it came down to his mate being someone who wasn’t male, he’d simply explain everything to her and let her find someone else she could be happy with. Carlo had even heard that this year there were packs coming to attend from even farther afield than usual. This gathering also became the time new alliances were made between packs, where packs could ask another for help in any way. Bloodshed was frowned upon at these gatherings, but sometimes it became unavoidable–or so he’d been told.

The alpha had asked him, because it was his first time, to become involved this year by being seen at the meeting hall, not hiding away from the pack like he usually did. Apparently all members of the pack who had come of age and were eligible to attend were asked to help out. So here he was now, wet as all get-go–because he’d only moments before slipped and landed in a puddle as he tried to dodge a car on the street outside the hall. Dripping wet, he grumbled as he walked through the falling snow toward the last place he wanted to be–the pack town hall. Carlo hoped to avoid everything until the starting ceremony itself, but Darian and the alpha had nixed that thought early on. The plain truth was he didn’t want to have to be anywhere he’d have to bear witness to Liam flirting with other people. Carlo was a coward, and he knew it. He wasn’t disputing the fact at all. As he neared the building, the noise coming from within sounded muted, but still loud in a raucous kind of way.

Carlo waved to a couple leaving the crowded room as he entered. He didn’t know them, but he thought it would be a polite and friendly gesture to the wolves who’d be arriving to stay with the Moon Runner pack over the next few days. He didn’t even complain much when Sally Anne Meyers, the alpha’s younger sister, made him strip out of his outer layers before she allowed him to step foot inside the door.

She’d joked, “If you were smarter, you’d strip in time to the music and make yourself a little money on the side.” Her laughter sounded light, and Carlo knew she wasn’t being mean. Being twenty-one herself, she probably also found herself being forced to be sociable. Unlike him, Sally Anne actually liked being the centre of attention, especially if it garnered the interest of a certain pack member. According to Marcus, the pack gossip, Sally Anne had set her sights on Wade Michelson this year. She’d chosen him as her mate and she’d do anything to get what she wanted.

“The only problem is they’d make me pay the money back with interest once they saw me naked,” he replied, snickering before he handed her the wet clothes.

“Go sit by the fire and I’ll call your mum to bring you some dry clothes. We wouldn’t want all your lovely bits and pieces to fall off, now would we?

What the fuck? Is she flirting with me? “Are you trying to get my arse beat? If you keep that talk up, you’ll make Wade crazy jealous and he’ll come after me.”

“Hah! That big galoot wouldn’t know which end faced up if someone didn’t tell him.” There seemed to be no heat in her words.

“I thought you were determined to be his mate?” Carlo asked, curious as he saw the glint of something in her eye.

She waved him away. “He’s mine. He just doesn’t know it yet. His days of sleeping around are over.” She sniffed haughtily then burst out laughing. “Go on. Go warm up and I’ll get you some dry clothes. I saw Liam in here earlier–not sure if he’s still here though.”

He gave her one last smile before he did as told. “Thank you.” He wasn’t sure if he thanked her for calling his mum or for letting him know Liam Kantry sat in the hall talking with friends.

The sounds of carols playing through the speakers, combined with happy laughter ringing out were enough to get even the most miserable person into the Christmas spirit. The interior walls had been transformed from their usual drab wooden bareness to having an array of colours splashed across them. The effect was kind of stunning. Whoever had decorated this year had taste.

With all the festivities going on around him, Carlo couldn’t have stopped smiling even if he’d wanted to. He actually loved this time of year–always had. The fact remained he loved everything about Christmas, from the addictive aroma of the baked goods to the scent of the pine trees filling the air, but most of all he loved the feeling of family and everyone being together.

His love of everything Christmas started the year his father gave him his very own sled. That year he’d met Liam Kantry for the first time. He’d also met Liam’s brothers Marcus and Theo. They’d taken turns sharing his sled while riding down the hills out on the back of the pack lands. The day seemed to rush by, none of them coming in until August Kantry, the boys’ father, had come looking for them. On the way home, he’d given them all a lecture on what were safe and unsafe times to stay out playing when their parents were sitting at home and waiting for them.

Christmas was just around the corner and his family was getting ready to celebrate in style. His mother was known by many as a baking fiend when it came to roasts, but no one in the pack came even close to beating Mary Kantry when it came to baking Christmas goodies. She had become a legend among the pack, especially for her Christmas bread. Hell, even just the thought of it had Carlo’s mouth watering. His thoughts came back to the present when he heard an all too familiar voice. Oh great, so Liam really is still here–yippee… not!
