Wow! I really enjoyed this book which is a continuation of the Unexpected series. Alex’s Surprise, Saving Alex, and Mate Me, Hate Me, Date Me, Love Me are the first 3 books in this interesting and enjoyable series. You’ll meet several of the characters from the first 3 books here. The main characters tracker D and the seriously abused mate Ash. I read this book practically straight through because I didn’t want to stop though exhaustion made me put the book down until the next day.
Tracker D went back to save Ash during the prior rescue of Alex from Edler Adali’s residence. D felt some unknown draw to Ash which is why he defied orders and with a clear and present danger went back to get Ash out along with Alex. D hopes and pushes Ash to seek out help for his many issues. D in the meantime has to hold back his intense feelings and desire for Ash until he might possibly one day return his feelings. While slowly exploring the world for the first time Ash slowly emerges from his shell and possibly realizes his love for D. With D and Ash’s love buds strange things start happening to Ash. An unexpected pregnancy surprises both D and Ash. Ash it is determined to be part of a thought to be paranormal species called Mages. This is another aspect of Ash and D’s life to adapt to and work through.
Read the story to find out what’s going on with Ash and where it will Ash and D. Ash has to over come the severe torture and abuse he suffered by his mate Elder Adali. Will things change with the revelations from D and Ash? How do they affect not only their lives but has far reaching implications for not only D and Ash but their group or circle of vampires and shifters. The book is rich with detail and character development. I would love to see more about what’s happening to Ash’s since that was the only thing not fully covered. I’m looking forward to further books in this series as there’s plenty of enjoyable characters that could I think support other stories. Get your copy and see what I mean.
What an amazing series! This is book 4 in the Unexpected Series, and this book might very well be my favorite in the series. But, I think I said that last time, too. And possibly the time before that, as well. This is the story of D and Ash (who we initially meet in book 2).
D is a tracker, as well as a shifter. It’s a world where paranormals such as vampires and shifters are well-known and accepted. They meet when D is part of the rescue team out to save Alex (a character we first meet in book 1), who has been kidnapped by Ash’ abusive & cruel mate, a Vampire Elder. After he is assured that Alex is safe, D goes back to also rescue Ash, who did what he could to also help Alex.
Afterwards, Ash is depressed, broken and suffering from PTSD. D continues to be there for him and their friendship develops. I loved how real their relationship felt in how it grew. I rooted for them from the first page.
As their friendship changes to romance, Ash realizes how strong he is, as he not only learns to go on, but thrives. Ash also realizes there are things about himself that he never knew before. Lights turn on moments before he reaches to turn them on. Cabinets and doors open before he can reach to open them. Could this be him? And how?
Nobody does gay m-preg like Chris McHart! This latest book in this series is both heartbreaking and heartwarming; such a touching and impassioned romance. The plot was engaging, the writing impressive, the imagery vivid, and the characters complex and well thought out. These characters quite simply draw you right into the story and make you believe in this extraordinary world the author has created for us. You just can’t help but become invested in their lives, and rooting for them becomes second nature. One physically and emotionally damaged yet beautiful man meets another man who will do anything it takes to save him and show him the healing power of true love. Their journey to love is truly a joy to read. I was hooked from very early on and remained riveted to the very last word. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a sweet, sexy, and utterly compelling read.
