Wanking with a mate isn’t gay—as long as you keep your hands to yourself.

Jez Fielding and James MacKenzie—Big Mac to his mates—are in their second year at uni. After partying too hard last year, they make a pact to rein themselves in. While their housemates are out drinking every weekend, Jez and Mac stay in to save cash and focus on their studies.

When Jez suggests watching some porn together, he isn’t expecting Mac to agree to it. One thing leads to another, and soon their arrangement becomes hands-on rather than hands-off. But falling for your straight friend can only end badly, unless there’s a chance he might feel the same.

My Review: Top Me Maybe? by Jay Northcote

TMM _CoverI received an ARC and read it immediately, but I just didn’t get around writing my review.
Jay managed to do one thing a lot of writers struggle with: she puts enough feeling into a short story to connect and feel with the MCs, even if there’s not much space to do this. In short, a hot story for a lunch reak (although I don’t recommend reading it when you have to get back to work afterwards ;))

I loved the MCs, I loved the setting and I loved, of course, the hot sex. Absolutely recommended read.

A few words of warning, though: If you’re looking for a novel with a lot of character development, this is not the book for you. Also, if you have a problem with short stories, since they are short: don’t buy it.
But if you want a hot afternoon interlude, then you’ll want to get yourself a copy. Enjoy

Blurb:

Duncan has a secret fantasy, but is Tyler the right man for the job?

Tyler’s new policeman boyfriend, Duncan, is gorgeous. Tall, broad, and über-masculine, he’s the epitome of the dominant top—in appearance at least.

When they discuss their sexual fantasies, Duncan confesses to a secret desire that surprises Tyler. Luckily for Duncan, Tyler’s happy to oblige and is determined to give Duncan a night to remember.

Five sex-free dates—how hard can it be?

When they were at uni, Owen always had a bit of a crush on Nathan. But Nathan was apparently straight, and Owen was too busy with other guys to take his crush seriously.

When Nathan moves back to Bristol after a year away, Owen hears that Nathan has come out of the closet, and he propositions him. Nathan doesn’t want to be just another notch on Owen’s bedpost, though, so he challenges Owen to prove he can be serious: five dates before they have sex.

Owen doesn’t think that sounds too difficult. He’s expecting Nathan to find his charms irresistible anyway. But as they grow closer, Owen begins to care more about proving himself to Nathan than he does about getting him into bed.

My Review:

As the blurb says, five sex free dates, that shouldn’t be too hard. But it is, apparently, and so we follow Nathan and Owen stumble through a lot of hot situations, even if no sex is allowed. The rule doesn’t stop them from getting into a lot of sexy encounters, although at one point even a walk in the park is too hot for these two.
I won’t tell you whether they make it, you have to read for yourself (yes, I’m mean like that).

But I’ll tell you I liked the idea of the story and how Jay created her protagonists. The Dating Game is a funny, steamy (yes, it get’s steamy) romance about one guy who doesn’t believe he’s relationship material and one guy who never thought he’d catch the other’s eye.

The Marring Kind

TheMarryingKind_FINAL

Series: Owen & Nathan – part 2

Author: Jay Northcote

Genre: contemporary m/m romance

Length: 35,000 words approx

Release date: Friday 17th April 2015

Publisher: self-published (Jaybird Press)

Editor: Sue Adams

Cover artist: Garrett Leigh

Series info:

The Marrying Kind is a sequel to The Dating Game. It continues Owen and Nathan’s story, so I recommend you read The Dating Game first. I have no firm plans for more stories about Owen and Nathan. The Marrying Kind has a definite happy ending, so please consider their story complete for now.

Blurb:

Nathan wants to put a ring on it, but is Owen the marrying kind?

Two years on from their first date, Owen and Nathan are living together and life is good—except they’re not on the same page about marriage.

A traditionalist at heart, Nathan wants it all: the wedding, the vows, and a pair of matching rings. Owen, on the other hand, believes marriage is old-fashioned and unnecessary. They don’t need a wedding to prove their commitment to each other. Love should be enough on its own.

All it takes is one moment of weakness on a night out to force the issue. Owen finds himself engaged after a half-drunk proposal, and Nathan’s enthusiasm sweeps him along. But as the big day approaches, the mounting tension finally combusts.

If he’s going to save their relationship, Owen will need to decide once and for all if he’s truly the marrying kind.

My Review: I really enjoyed the Dating Game, but this story gave me some trouble. This might be based on my own beliefs about marriage, but I didn’t get Owen and his views on marriage. I understood his background and his past, but I wasn’t able to relate to his fears. He loves Nathan with all his heart, and for me it’s a clear thing then. The reasons why he panics every time he thinks too much about marrying were (for me) just not valid enough to feel with him. I had the constant urge to shake him and tell him to pull his head out of his ass.

I’m going to give the story four stars, as it’s well written and funny. I’d just have loved to get deeper in Owen’s mind, to see more valid reasons for his aversion against marrying.

My Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars.

Blurb
When Aiden agrees to run the Mad Mucker—a twelve-mile muddy slog over an obstacle course—he’s expecting it to be a bit of a laugh. The training will be tough, but Aiden could use the motivation to regain some fitness.

Matt is the sexy cousin of one of Aiden’s coworkers and a last-minute addition to the team. When he agrees to train with Aiden, Aiden suddenly finds the prospect of regular workouts a lot more appealing.

Soon attraction flares, and they embark on an intense physical relationship. Matt doesn’t want to fall in love with a man, and Aiden doesn’t want to fall in love at all, but despite their insistence on no strings, they grow closer. As the day of the race approaches, time is running out for them to work out how they feel about each other.

Exclusive Excerpt

“So… where do you want me?”

“Sitting on the sofa should work, as long as you can relax your leg.”

“Okay.”

Aiden was wearing loose running shorts that came down to midthigh, so there was no need to take those off. But in the heat of his flat he felt uncomfortably warm with two layers on his top half, so he stripped off the long-sleeved top he had on over a tank. He balled up the top and held it in his lap as he sat, just in case, hoping Matt wouldn’t notice and guess why. At least it was more subtle than using a cushion.

Matt knelt on the floor in front of him, and Aiden’s cock tingled and started to take notice. Aiden was glad he’d put something in his lap, because although Matt didn’t seem completely averse to Aiden’s brand of light flirting, Aiden wasn’t sure Matt was ready for Aiden’s boner sitting up and waving at him. He gripped the fabric in his lap a little tighter and tried to think unsexy thoughts. But it was difficult with six foot something of sexy kneeling right there between his spread legs.
